Championing mental health promotion, prevention of mental illness, and rehabilitation — addressing the growing need for compassionate mental health professionals.
The Department of Psychiatric Nursing (Mental Health Nursing) at ACN focuses on mental health promotion, prevention of mental illness, psychiatric rehabilitation, counselling, suicide prevention, and substance abuse awareness. As mental health challenges continue to rise globally, this department addresses the critical and growing need for trained mental health nursing professionals.
Students are trained in therapeutic communication, psychopharmacology, crisis intervention, and community mental health practices, equipping them to provide holistic care across diverse psychiatric settings.
The department operates a dedicated psychiatric nursing laboratory equipped for simulating therapeutic interactions, counselling sessions, and psychiatric assessment procedures. Students practice mental status examination techniques, therapeutic communication skills, and crisis intervention strategies in a safe, controlled environment.
Students receive hands-on clinical training at the AHRC Psychiatry Ward, gaining direct experience in inpatient psychiatric care. The department also conducts active community outreach programs focused on mental health awareness, suicide prevention campaigns, and substance abuse education in surrounding villages and schools.
Join the Department of Psychiatric Nursing at ACN and help destigmatize mental illness while building a career in one of healthcare’s most vital fields.
