The Department of Nursing Foundation is the cornerstone of nursing education at ACN, responsible for teaching basic nursing care, clinical skills, and professional nursing practice to all first-year students. With 15 dedicated faculty members, this department covers an extensive curriculum spanning medical, surgical, ICU, orthopaedics, laboratory, and injection room procedures.
Students develop fundamental competencies in patient assessment, medication administration, wound care, infection control, and health promotion — skills that form the bedrock of their entire nursing career regardless of future specialisation.
The Nursing Foundation department operates a comprehensive basic nursing skills laboratory where students learn and practice essential clinical procedures. From bed-making and patient positioning to vital signs monitoring and wound care, every foundational skill is practised here before students enter clinical rotations.
Students rotate through Medical, Surgical, ICU, Orthopaedics wards, and the Injection Room at Adichunchanagiri Hospital & Research Centre (AHRC). This broad clinical exposure ensures students develop confidence across multiple care settings from the very beginning of their nursing education.
