Program Overview

Engineering Life at the Molecular Level

The M.Sc. Biotechnology at the Adichunchanagiri School of Natural Sciences is a two-year, four-semester postgraduate program delivered under the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS). Students gain a rigorous foundation in molecular biology, recombinant DNA technology, genetic engineering and bioprocess technology.

The curriculum integrates bioinformatics, industrial biotechnology and applied biological sciences with a substantial research project in the final semester. Students work across modern teaching labs and ACU's central research facilities, building both conceptual depth and hands-on technical proficiency.

Core Training Pillars
  • Cell, molecular biology & biochemistry foundations
  • Recombinant DNA & genetic engineering techniques
  • Bioprocess technology & industrial biotechnology
  • Bioinformatics & computational biology
  • Dissertation research in an active laboratory

CBCS & Evaluation Framework
1
Credit Structure

A minimum of 80 credits across 4 semesters is required for the M.Sc. degree. Normal duration is 2 years, with a maximum of 4 years to complete the program on a full-time basis.

2
CIE & SEE Weightage

Theory courses: CIE 40 marks + SEE 60 marks. Practical courses: CIE 20 marks + SEE 30 marks. Project work carries 180 marks (60 final report + 120 oral presentation / viva-voce).

3
Grading & Passing

Absolute grading with letters O / A / B / C / D / E / F. Minimum Grade Point of 5 required to pass a course, along with 40% in SEE, 50% in CIE, and 45% aggregate of CIE + SEE.

4
CGPA → Percentage

The official conversion formula is P = (CGPA − 0.5) × 10. For example, a CGPA of 8.20 translates to 77% as per the ACU regulations governing M.Sc. programs.
