About the Medical Education Unit

The Medical Education Unit (MEU) at BGS Medical College & Hospital is the academic nerve centre responsible for overseeing CBME (Competency-Based Medical Education) implementation, faculty development and the integration of innovative teaching-learning methodologies across all departments.

Established in alignment with NMC directives, the MEU ensures that all phases of the MBBS and postgraduate curricula follow the latest pedagogical standards. It conducts regular Faculty Development Programmes (FDPs), workshops on assessment tools and training sessions on simulation-based education, AETCOM modules and digital pedagogy.

The unit works closely with department heads and curriculum committees to ensure vertical and horizontal integration of medical education, fostering a culture of evidence-based teaching and continuous quality improvement.

Key Functions

Curriculum Design

Designing and updating the CBME curriculum across all phases, ensuring competency mapping, learning objectives and alignment with NMC guidelines.

Faculty Development

Conducting regular FDPs, workshops and training programmes to enhance teaching skills, assessment literacy and digital pedagogy competence.

Assessment Reform

Implementing competency-based assessments including OSCE stations, formative evaluations, log books and clinical skill assessments across departments.

Skills Training

Overseeing the Skills and Simulation Lab, coordinating manikin-based training, BLS/ACLS workshops and procedural skill sessions for all student batches.

AETCOM Modules

Implementing Attitude, Ethics and Communication modules across all phases, building professional competencies, empathy and ethical decision-making in students.

Research in Medical Education

Encouraging and supporting faculty in educational research, best practices documentation and publication of pedagogy-focused studies.
