The Department of Pharmacology at BGS Medical College & Hospital trains students in rational drug prescribing in accordance with patients' needs for treatment, prevention and diagnosis of common diseases. The department places strong emphasis on pharmacovigilance and drug prescription in children, the elderly, and pregnancy.
The curriculum is structured around 15 core competencies covering rational prescribing, drug interactions, pharmacovigilance, special-population prescribing, biomedical waste management, and contemporary medication updates — preparing students for careers in clinical practice, teaching, research, and the pharmaceutical industry.

The department operates dedicated laboratory and surveillance infrastructure designed for experimental and clinical pharmacology training and pharmacovigilance.
