Anti-Ragging Policy
Adichunchanagiri University maintains absolute zero tolerance towards ragging in any form. The university strictly follows UGC Regulations, 2009, and Supreme Court directives.

No institution shall permit or condone any reported incident of ragging in any form.

What Counts as Ragging
Acts Strictly Prohibited
Ragging encompasses any behaviour that causes annoyance, harm or psychological distress to a fresher or fellow student. The following acts are strictly prohibited and will be dealt with under the institutional disciplinary code.

Any act of teasing, name-calling, or rude behaviour directed at freshers, junior students, or any other fellow students — whether on campus premises, in hostels, or during college-related activities.

Any form of rowdy, undisciplined, or disorderly conduct that causes physical annoyance, mental agony, or psychological harm to another student.
×
Compelling any student, whether by force or otherwise, to perform any act that would cause shame, embarrassment, or humiliation to that student.
×
Any act that disrupts or prevents the normal academic activities and functioning of the university, its constituent colleges, or hostels.
×
Demanding or extorting money, property, or any other material benefit from a student through coercion, intimidation, or threat.
×
Any act of physical assault, sexual harassment, or sexual abuse against any student, in any form whatsoever.
×
Use of abusive, derogatory, or threatening language — whether spoken, written, or communicated through electronic means — against any student.
×
Any act of ragging carried out through mobile phone messages, social media platforms, email, online chat, or any other form of digital communication.

Punishments
Disciplinary Measures
Strict actions are taken against those found guilty of ragging. Penalties range from suspension to permanent expulsion and criminal prosecution.

Immediate suspension from attending classes, with withdrawal of academic privileges including access to the library, laboratories, and other institutional resources.

Withholding of all institutional and government scholarships, fellowships, or any form of financial assistance being availed by the offender.

Debarment from appearing in any university examination, including internal assessments, for one or more semesters as determined by the disciplinary committee.

Suspension or permanent expulsion from the hostel, with forfeiture of hostel caution deposit and other hostel-related privileges.

Cancellation of admission and removal from the rolls of the institution, without refund of any fees or deposits paid.

Rustication from the institution for a period ranging from one to four semesters, depending on the severity of the offence.

Permanent expulsion from the institution with simultaneous debarring from admission to any other institution in India, as per UGC Regulations.

Every student admitted to any constituent college of ACU is required to submit a signed anti-ragging affidavit at the time of admission, jointly signed by the student and parent/guardian.
Institutional Framework
Prevention & Monitoring
ACU has a multi-layered anti-ragging framework operational across all constituent colleges.
  • Every student and parent/guardian is required to submit a mandatory anti-ragging undertaking and affidavit at the time of admission, as prescribed under UGC Regulations, 2009.
  • The university has constituted Anti-Ragging Committees and Anti-Ragging Squads at the university level and across all constituent colleges, with representation from faculty, administration, students, and external members.
  • Comprehensive CCTV surveillance systems are installed and operational across all common areas, hostels, corridors, canteens, and campus entry/exit points to monitor and deter any incidents of ragging.
  • A confidential complaint mechanism is available to all students, ensuring complete anonymity and a strict no-retaliation policy for those who report incidents of ragging.
  • Penalties for those found guilty of ragging range from suspension of classes to permanent expulsion from the institution, and in severe cases, criminal prosecution under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.
  • Mandatory anti-ragging awareness sessions are conducted during the orientation programme for all incoming students at the beginning of every academic year across all constituent colleges.

Report Ragging Immediately

Any student who witnesses or experiences ragging should report it immediately. All complaints are treated with strict confidentiality.
