Prof.K. Byrappa, obtained his Master’s degree from the University of Mysore with Distinction, Rank and Medals, and Ph.D. and Post-Doc both from Moscow State University, Russia (one of the top ten Universities in the world during that time). He has spent about 31 years at the University of Mysore in different capacities before becoming the Vice Chancellor of Mangalore University, Karnataka during June 2014. Currently, from July 2018, he is the Pro-Vice Chancellor of Adichunchanagiri University, located near Mysore. A renowned academician and researcher Prof.K. Byrappa has over 425 research publications in International journals with over 8600 citations and is known as a world authority in hydrothermal technology. In addition to this, he has over 33 book chapters and reviews, and has edited 10 books and authored a famous Handbook of Hydrothermal Technology, published by Elsevier, UK. He is specialized in Materials Science and Engineering, Nanoscience & Nanotechnology, Solid State Science, Crystal Engineering, Chemistry of Materials, Crystallography, Crystal Chemistry, Experimental Mineralogy, and Environmental Science. He is involved as a Chief coordinator of inter-disciplinary research projects worth of around Rs. 80 Crores at the University of Mysore and has successfully guided 24 students for their Ph.D degrees and about 4 more scholars are currently working under his guidance. He has received several national and international awards including a prestigious Sir C.V. Raman Birth Centenary award, from the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India during 2017. He is also a Senior Associate Editor and Editorial Broad members of several international journals published by Elsevier, Springer, Taylor and Francis, American Scientific, etc. Prof. Byrappa has research collaborations with leading researchers across the world, and he has spent around 15 years aboard working in international laboratories.
